London’s most Istagramable colorful neighborhood… Notting Hill!
Yes, it is Notting Hill.
London’s most vibrant, colorful and picturesque neighborhood. It is a place, where everyone is going to find the famous bookstore from the movie of the same title. Here, too, everyone is looking for the little mews with colourful, worth millions of pounds houses known from the Love Actually movie. Today I prepared for you a handful of photos showing you some gems of Notting Hill.
These photos were taken at the end of June when the restaurants and street markets were still closed, hence empty streets and little traffic. Such views are rare there and although I was happy to be able to take these unique pictures, Portobello Road is not same without people.
Local art
I started my walk from the beginning of Portobello Road, going from Kensal Rise. Along the brick wall, I was struck by Fiona Hawthorne’s art gallery for the 150th anniversary of the market.
150 years of the market
Certainly Notting Hill is not tattooed in murals like Camden, however, there are single works of art that catch your eye.
Those famous colourful houses
Notting Hill is mainly famous of colourful terraced houses, which I mentioned at the beginning. Beautiful and tall houses attract tourists and Instagram models from all over the world. Who wouldn’t want a beautiful picture on the stairs of one of these houses? Unfortunately, the growing trend is increasingly affecting the residents of these beautiful estates. It is worth remembering that these houses are inhabited by “real” people who are owed at least a bit of respected. According to one of the British portals, the Instagram Influencers were changing their clothes for hours and taking pictures with the gorgeous houses as a backdrop. Quite often without paying attention to residents trying to get into their own homes!
Certainly, London is not the only city with colourful doors, but to me it is number one in this category! Colourful doors and lush plants add to the charm of this area.
Excuse me, is it this famous bookstore from the movie?
Hold on a second, houses houses, but Notting Hill is all about film! Yes, it is. A classic that every fan of Hugh Grant and Julie Roberts must see. Personally, I love it and I enjoy watching it once in a while. 😊 Again, many people visit this place not because of the specific colourful architecture or the food and antique market. Many people simply walk around London to see this famous bookstore (13 Blenheim Crescent, London W11 2EE) or the blue door behind which the character, played by Hugh Grant lived (280 Westbourne Park Road). I hope you find these addresses useful as the area is luring people with other places advertising the film in order to attract as many tourists as possible.
Hidden gems… the mews
Notting Hill is not the only film that has been a home to big screen cameras. Another famous film is Love Actually, where one couple lives on one of the mews. The scene in which Andrew Lincoln confesses his love to Keira Knightley on sheets of paper has already become epic. The street where her house is located is one of the most desirable places for tourists. “Mews” are usually very stylish streets characterized by charming houses. They used to be stables for horses with servants’ rooms on the first floor, over time turned into garages and places for local businesses, and now studio/apartments worth millions of pounds. St Luke’s Mews (literally and figuratively) is rich in colourful rainbow-like houses. If I had a few million, I would love to move to one of these wonderful houses.
An interesting fact for fans of The Witcher, Henry Cavill lives on one of these streets in Kensington. Although, I haven’t met him yet, who knows, maybe you’ll be more lucky than me 😁.
Empty Portobello Rd
Even though Notting Hill without this street is like a glove without its pair, I won’t write about Portobello Road in this post. Here are some photos that show how much the pandemic has affected the dynamics of this place. In time, I will prepare a guide for you on what to see on Portobello Road and what this place looks like “at normal time”, “in normal situation”. The street bustling with life, full of old and new, kitschy trinket to unique treasures, cute little cafes to expensive and luxurious restaurants. I won’t forget to mention the Notting Hill Carnival! An annual two-day event that attracts people from all over the world!

Tak, to właśnie Notting Hill
Najbardziej tętniąca życiem, kolorowa i malownicza okolica Londynu. To tutaj każdy zmierza w poszukiwaniu słynnej księgarni z filmu o tym samym tytule. Również tutaj każdy poszukuje wąskich uliczek, wzdłuż których ciągną się kolorowe, warte miliony funtów domy znane z filmu Love Actually (To właśnie miłość). Przygotowałam dla Was kilkanaście zdjęć obrazujących niektóre zakamarki Notting Hill.
Zdjęcia robiłam pod koniec czerwca, kiedy jeszcze restauracje i uliczne stragany były pozamykane, a więc ruch na ulicy był bliski zeru. Takie widoki są tam rzadko spotykane i choć cieszyłam się z możliwości zrobienia wyjątkowych zdjęć, to Portobello Road nie jest sobą bez ludzi.
Ja swój spacer zaczęłam od początku Portobello Road, idąc od Kensal Rise. Wzdłuż ceglanego muru rzuciła mi się w oczy galeria rysunków z okazji 150-lecia marketu wg Fiony Hawthorne.
Lokalna sztuka
Z pewnością Notting Hill to nie wytatuowane w muralach Camden, nie mniej jednak znajdziemy tu pojedyczne dzieła, które nacieszą oko.
Te kolorowe domy…
Notting Hill to przede wszystkim kolorowe domy szeregowe, o których wspomniałam na wstępie. Piękne i wysokie niczym kamienice, przyciągają turystów i instagramowe modelki z całego świata. Kto z nas nie chciałby pięknego zdjęcia na schodach jednego z tych domów? Niestety narastający trend coraz bardziej doskwiera mieszkańcom tych pięknych domów. Warto pamiętać o tym, iż w tych domach mieszkają „prawdziwi” ludzie, którym należy się szacunek. Jak podaje jeden z brytyjskich portali, instagramowe influencerki potrafiły godzinami przebierać się w nowe kreacje i robić zdjęcia na tle tych pięknych domów. Dosyć często nie zwracając uwagi na mieszkańców próbujących dostać się do własnych domów!
Z pewnością Londyn nie jestem jedynym miastem z kolorowymi drzwiami, ale dla mnie jest numerem jeden w tej kategorii! Kolorowe drzwi i bujna roślinność dodają uroku tej okolicy.

Chwila moment, domy domami, ale przecież Notting Hill to przede wszystkim film! Tak, tak. Kultowy klasyk, który każdy fan Hugh Granta i Julie Roberts musi zobaczyć. Osobiście uwielbiam i z przyjemnością oglądam raz na jakiś czas. 😊 Ponownie, wiele osób trafia w to miejsce nie ze względu na wyjątkowo barwną architekturę czy stragany z żywnością i starociami. Londyńskie wybrukowane uliczki
Notting Hill to niejedyny film, który gościł kamery w tych okolicach. Kolejnym kultowym filmem jest Love Actually (To właśnie miłość), w którym jedna para mieszka przy wybrukowanej ulicy. Scena, w której Andrew Lincoln wyznaje miłość Keirze Knightley na kartkach papieru przeszła już do historii. Natomiast uliczka, przy której znajduje się jej dom, to jedno z najbardziej pożądanych przez turystów miejsc. „Mews” to z reguły bardzo stylowe uliczki charakteryzujące się uroczymi domami. Niegdyś stajnie dla koni z pomieszczeniami dla służby na piętrze, z czasem zamienione na garaże i miejsce na lokalne biznesy, aż po warte miliony funtów studia/mieszkania. Uliczka St Luke’s Mews (dosłownie i w przenośni) bogata jest w kolorowe niczym tęcza domy. Gdybym miała kilka milionów na koncie, to z przyjemnością przeprowadziłabym się do jednego z tych cudownych domów.
Ciekawostka dla fanów Wiedźmina, właśnie na jednej z takich uliczek w Kensington mieszka Henry Cavill. Mnie się jeszcze nie udało go spotkać, ale kto wie, może Wy będziecie mieć więcej szczęścia 😁
Portobello Rd
Choć Notting Hill bez tej ulicy jest jak rękawiczka bez swej pary, to w tym poście nie będę rozpisywać się na temat Portobello Road. Poniżej przedstawię kilka zdjęć, które ukazują jak bardzo pandemia wpłynęła na dynamikę tego miejsca. Z czasem przygotuję dla Was przewodnik o tym, co warto zobaczyć na Portobello Road i jak wygląda to miejsce „o normalnej porze”, „w normalnych czasach”. Ulica ta tętni życiem, jest pełna staroci i nowości, kiczowatej tandety po wyjątkowe skarby, klimatyczne kawiarnie po drogie i luksusowe restauracje. Nie zapomnę też o karnawale na Notting Hill! Doroczny dwudniowy karnawał, który przyciąga ludzi z różnych zakątków świata!
